Product reviews (star ratings)

Show star ratings and review counts on every recommended product on the quiz results page, so shoppers see what other customers think before they add to cart. Optionally highlight the best-rated recommendation with a Top rated badge, and use ratings to break ties between equally matched products.

It works with Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox, Okendo, Stamped and other reviews apps on Shopify, and with WooCommerce product reviews on WooCommerce. There is nothing to connect: no API key, no theme code and no settings to change in your reviews app.

Available on: all plans · Platforms: Shopify and WooCommerce · Off by default — turn it on per quiz.

What shoppers see

On the results page, for each recommended product that has reviews:

  • Stars filled to the exact rating (a 4.6 shows four stars and most of the fifth), the average rating (for example 4.6) and the number of reviews (for example (128) or 128 reviews).
  • A Top rated badge on the image of the best-rated recommendation, if you turn it on.
  • Tapping the rating opens the product page (on WooCommerce, straight to its Reviews tab).

Products without reviews show nothing extra, unless you choose to show empty stars with a short note such as No reviews yet. Screen readers hear the full rating, for example Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 128 reviews.

How it works

Shopify: reviews apps save each product's average rating and review count on the product in Shopify. ShopperQuiz reads them through its existing access to your products, so no extra permission or setup is needed. It reads Shopify's standard rating fields first (written by Judge.me, Okendo, Loox and others), and otherwise the app's own fields (Judge.me, Loox, Yotpo, Stamped).

WooCommerce: ShopperQuiz reads each product's average rating and review count from WooCommerce. Review plugins that save reviews as WooCommerce product reviews work the same way.

When ratings update: when your products sync, when a product changes in your store (for example when a new review is published or approved), and automatically every few hours. You can also click Sync ratings now at any time.

Set up

  1. Collect reviews. On Shopify, install a reviews app (for example Judge.me) and publish some reviews. On WooCommerce, turn on Enable product reviews and Enable star rating on reviews in WooCommerce → Settings → Products, then approve some reviews.
  2. In ShopperQuiz, open Quiz Builder → Results Screen → Product reviews and turn on Show star ratings on results. (You can also switch quizzes on and off under Integrations → Product reviews → Manage.)
  3. The status line shows how many of your products have ratings. If it says ratings have not been synced yet, click Sync now.
  4. Choose the review count style, position, Top rated badge and tie-break options, then click Save and open Preview or take your live quiz to check it.

Your reviews app

AppWhat to do
Judge.meNothing — ratings are read automatically.
Okendo, LooxNothing — ratings are read automatically.
Yotpo, StampedRatings are read from the app's product fields. If the status line shows no ratings after you sync, check in the app that its product rating fields (sometimes called rich snippets or SEO data) are turned on.
Other reviews appsAny app that saves Shopify's standard product rating fields works. Most do, because Google Shopping and search results use them.
WooCommerceNative product reviews, and plugins that save reviews as WooCommerce product reviews (for example Judge.me for WooCommerce, Customer Reviews for WooCommerce, YITH WooCommerce Advanced Reviews).

Top rated badge

The badge goes to one product: the recommendation with the best rating, weighted by its number of reviews, among products rated 4.0 or higher with at least the minimum number of reviews. It only appears when at least two products are recommended. Weighting means a product with 4.8 stars from 300 reviews beats a product with a single 5-star review.

Tie-break by rating

Your quiz's answers and votes always decide the recommendations. When two or more products end up with exactly the same votes, this setting shows the better-rated one first, using the same weighted rating as the badge. Products without reviews sit between well-rated and poorly-rated products. Products with different votes are never reordered, and products pinned by an answer stay pinned.

Because ties are decided before the list is cut to your maximum number of products, the tie-break can also decide which of the tied products make the list.

Reviews style

When reviews are on, Quiz Builder → Results Screen → Reviews style lets you restyle everything. Every field is optional: empty fields follow your quiz theme (filled stars in your accent colour, empty stars in a light tint of your text colour, your theme font).

  • Stars: size (desktop and mobile), filled star colour, empty star colour.
  • Rating text: font family, weight, size (desktop and mobile), colour.
  • Top rated badge: background and text colour.

Click Use theme next to a colour, or Reset to theme for the whole card, to go back to your theme.

The Manage drawer

Integrations → Product reviews (on WooCommerce: WooCommerce reviews) → Manage shows:

  • On your store — how many products have ratings, which reviews app they come from, and when ratings were last synced, with a Sync ratings now button.
  • Turn on per quiz — a switch for each quiz.
  • Works with — the supported apps, and a link back to this guide.

Preview

When reviews are on, the Quiz Builder Preview shows your real ratings. If none of your products has a rating yet, the preview shows sample ratings with a note above the preview, so you can still check the design. Shoppers always see your real ratings.

Troubleshooting

No stars on the results page

  • Check that Show star ratings on results is on for this quiz and saved.
  • Check the status line in Results Screen → Product reviews: if no products have ratings, click Sync now.
  • Check Minimum reviews to show stars: products with fewer reviews show no stars.
  • On WooCommerce, check that reviews and star ratings are turned on in WooCommerce → Settings → Products and that the reviews are approved.

A new review isn't showing yet Ratings update when the product changes in your store and every few hours. Click Sync ratings now to update immediately. Some reviews apps hold new reviews for approval first.

The rating differs from my product page Your reviews app may round differently, or count only published reviews. ShopperQuiz shows the average and count your reviews app saves for the product.

FAQ

Do I need an API key or a paid reviews plan? No. ShopperQuiz reads the ratings your reviews app already saves in your store, including on free plans such as Judge.me Free.

Does this change my product pages or theme? No. It only changes the quiz results page, and only for quizzes where you turn it on.

Do ratings change which products are recommended? Only if you turn on Break ties by rating, and then only the order of products with exactly the same votes.

Can I show review text? Not yet. The results page shows the star rating, average and count.
