Zapier & Webhooks Troubleshooting
Start with Integrations → Zapier (or Webhooks) → Manage → Recent deliveries. It answers the most important question: did ShopperQuiz send the event?
- Delivered: ShopperQuiz's part worked. The receiving tool accepted the event. If nothing happened after that, look in the tool itself (in Zapier: Zap history).
- No row at all: the event wasn't created or wasn't sent. See No delivery appears.
- Retrying or Failed: the receiving tool rejected it. Click the row to see the HTTP status and error.
No delivery appears
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Wait 30 seconds | Events are sent 15–30 seconds after they happen |
| The Zap is published (or the endpoint is switched on) | Unpublished Zaps and paused endpoints receive nothing. Events from before publishing are not sent later |
| The Zap or endpoint uses the right quiz | A Zap filtered to Quiz A ignores Quiz B |
| Sync per quiz is on for that quiz | Turned-off quizzes send nothing |
| New Lead: the quiz asks for an email on the welcome screen | No email, no lead |
| Completion: the shopper reached the results page | Leaving midway isn't a completion |
| Cart, checkout: the shopper used the buttons on the quiz results page | Actions on regular store pages aren't linked to the quiz |
| Order: the order is linked to the quiz | Shopify: it contains a product added from the quiz results. WooCommerce: it was placed within an hour of going to the cart or checkout from the quiz, with the ShopperQuiz plugin active |
| Order: the order is paid | Shopify: paid orders. WooCommerce: Processing, Completed or On hold |
| Your plan is Starter or above and the subscription is active | Events pause while a subscription is past due or cancelled |
Each event fires once per quiz attempt. For example, adding a second product to the cart doesn't send another cart.added.
Zapier
The run says "Safely halted"
A step deliberately stopped the Zap. Open the run in Zap history and look at the step with the clock icon:
- Find Response: "nothing was found": see the next question.
- Filter by Zapier: the filter's conditions weren't met, which is expected.
- The steps after a halted step show Skipped.
Find Response finds nothing
- Fill in only one of Shopper Email or Response. With both, a response must match both. A response picked from the dropdown is fixed, so it will never match other shoppers.
- Map Shopper Email from the trigger, rather than typing an address.
- To keep the Zap running when nothing is found, set Successful if no search results are found? to True.
- "Enter a Shopper Email or a Response ID to search for" means both fields were empty.
I changed the Zap but it still behaves the old way
Zapier runs the published version. Edits stay in a draft until you click Publish. When Publish is greyed out, the draft has no unpublished changes.
Emails from "Email by Zapier" don't arrive
- Test step emails go to your Zapier account's address, not the To field, on Zapier plans below Team. Live runs use the To field.
- Email by Zapier is limited (about 10 emails per hour per account). Heavy testing can hit this; use Gmail → Send Email for higher volumes.
- Check Promotions and Spam.
- Check who is in To: Shopper Email sends to the shopper, while your typed address sends to you.
Zapier asks me to reconnect
The connection was revoked in ShopperQuiz (Revoke or Disconnect Zapier), or the store's plan no longer includes Zapier. Reconnect from the Zap's Account field.
"Your ShopperQuiz plan does not include Zapier"
Zapier and Webhooks need the Starter plan or above. Upgrade in Settings → Plan & billing, then retry the Zap run.
The answer fields show IDs instead of question text
Pick a Quiz in the trigger. The fields are then labelled Answer: your question. Without a quiz filter, Zapier can't know which quiz's questions to show.
Webhooks
"Retrying" or "Failed"
Click the delivery to see the response:
| Error | Fix |
|---|---|
| HTTP 401 / 403 | Your endpoint is rejecting the request. Check its own authentication, or your signature verification |
| HTTP 404 | The URL is wrong, or the Make/n8n webhook was deleted. Copy the URL again |
| HTTP 5xx | Your endpoint crashed. Check its logs |
| Timed out after 10s | Respond with 2xx first, then do slow work |
| Blocked: private or reserved address | The URL points to a local or private network. Use a public HTTPS URL |
After fixing it, click Retry now on failed deliveries.
The endpoint was paused
ShopperQuiz pauses an endpoint after 50 failures in a row, or when it responds 410 Gone. Fix the endpoint, then switch it back on in the drawer.
My signature check fails
- Use the raw request body, before JSON parsing or re-serialising.
- Sign
t + "." + body, not the body alone. - After Rotate secret, update the secret in your code.
- See Verify the signature for working code.
I received the same event twice
Retries can deliver an event again. Use the id field or the X-ShopperQuiz-Event-Id header to ignore duplicates.
Still stuck?
Email [email protected] with the time of the quiz run and, if you have it, the delivery or event ID from Recent deliveries.
